A FICM that arrives already matched to your truck
The FICM is the fuel injection control module. It takes the truck's 12 volt supply, steps it up, and uses that higher voltage to fire the injectors. As it weakens, the engine gets harder to start and rougher to run.
This page sells a remanufactured FICM outright. The module reaches you already programmed, goes straight in, and your failed one makes the return trip afterwards as the core. Nothing has to be sent in first, so the vehicle stays together while the replacement is on its way.
Match your FICM by model year and body style
Sixteen options sit in the picker, and the three body styles do not all run the same length:
- Ford F-Series Truck: 2003 through 2008
- Ford E-Series Van: 2003 through 2009
- Ford Excursion: 2003 through 2005
Choose the year and the body style together. That pairing is the whole selection. There is no number to read off the module first and no build date to go and look up. If your vehicle and year are not on that three-line list, that range is what is stocked here, and it is worth a call to talk to a specialist before ordering anything. The wider Ford diesel modules range covers the other computers fitted to these trucks.
The build date problem, and why your VIN replaces it
No part number is needed to order. The part number is matched from your VIN.
That is worth more on this range than it first sounds. Modules across these model years are sometimes sold split by engine build date, which puts the buyer in the position of having to find a build date before they can order at all, and two vehicles wearing the same model year can fall on opposite sides of that split. Your VIN identifies one vehicle exactly. The matching happens here, on our side, rather than in your driveway with a torch.
The VIN request reaches you after checkout, not before. A VIN runs 17 characters. Look at the dash, or at the registration card if the truck is not with you.
FICM, IDM or ECM: what a 2003 Ford diesel owner picks between
Ford fitted more than one control module to these diesels, and 2003 is the model year that catches people out. It is the only year that appears on three separate pages here:
- This page, the FICM: 2003 through 2009
- Ford Diesel IDM: 1995 through 2003, F-Series trucks and E-Series vans
- Ford Diesel ECM/PCM: 1996 through 2003, F-Series trucks
If the vehicle is a 2003, the year will not tell you which page you want. The module that failed will. This is also the only one of the three that carries the Excursion.
Where a rebuilt FICM comes from
Each unit is repaired at component level, then checked to confirm it still talks to the truck and that its settings survive being stored rather than falling straight back out. A voltage reading is taken before it is boxed. Diesel ECM Exchange does that work in house, and the latest software Ford has released goes on before the module ships.
The core, and what switches your warranty on
The free lifetime warranty on your new module switches on when your old one reaches us, rather than when you pay. The core is simply the module you are taking off. An envelope and a prepaid label are already in the box when it arrives, so there is nothing to print, buy or arrange. The warranty terms set out the cover and the window you have to return it in.
Orders ship within 1 to 5 business days, then 2 to 3 business days in transit. You will hear from us for that number after checkout, and programming follows it, so a prompt reply keeps things moving.
The other four routes to a working FICM
Each one trades away something different:
- Send your own module in for repair. You get your own unit back for less money. You lose the vehicle for the whole round trip, not only the days it spends on the bench. The module also has to be out of the truck before you can order. That is the FICM repair service
- A new module from a dealer. It ships blank, so a dealer visit to code it is still ahead of you before the truck runs
- A used or salvage module. Nothing has been repaired or checked, programming is still to come, and any promise attached to it is the seller's rather than ours
- An exchange that holds a core deposit. Your money sits with the seller until the old core has been inspected and accepted. Nothing is held against your core here
If the module turns out not to be the fix, the 60-day money back guarantee applies, with the terms set out on our return policy.
My truck cranks for a long time before it starts. Is that the FICM?
It is one of the signs. Long cranking when cold, engine misfires, loping idle, white smoke and sudden dying all point at this module. None of them proves it on its own, though. Each of those symptoms has other possible causes, so confirm the module is the fault before you pull it out and order a replacement.
Can I check the FICM myself before I order one?
Yes, with a multimeter. The module's factory output is 48 volts, and a reading meaningfully below that points at a module on the way out. It is a basic check you can run yourself before you spend anything on parts, and it is worth taking before you order rather than after.
I have a 2006 Excursion. Why can I not select it?
Because the Excursion options stop at 2005. F-Series trucks run to 2008 here and E-Series vans to 2009, but the Excursion list ends after the 2005 model year. If your vehicle falls outside the years listed for its body style, ask before ordering rather than choosing the nearest year, because the nearest year is not the same vehicle.
My truck is a 2003. Do I need the FICM or the injector driver module?
2003 is the one model year both pages cover, so the year cannot settle it. The FICM drives the injectors using stepped-up voltage. The injector driver module is the equivalent part on the earlier trucks, sold on its own page for 1995 through 2003. Work out which module has actually failed, then pick the page that sells it.
I have read that a replacement FICM has to be flashed by a dealer. Does this one?
Not this one. The programming happens here, against your VIN, while the module is still on the bench. What reaches you is already finished. The confusion is real, and it comes from the answer depending on where the module came from. One supplied blank still has to be programmed once it is fitted. This one does not, because that step happens here first.
Is the E-Series van module the same as the F-Series truck one?
They are listed separately, so select the option that matches your vehicle rather than assuming one covers the other. Your VIN then confirms the right unit before anything is programmed or shipped. That is the reason we ask for it, and it is why you do not have to settle this question yourself before ordering.
I replaced my FICM and it still will not start. What now?
A no-start has more than one possible cause, and swapping this module does not rule the others out. If you have fitted a replacement and the vehicle still will not start, call us before going any further, because the next step depends on what the vehicle is doing. The guarantee above still applies while you work it out.
HOW DOES IT WORK?

Frequently asked questions
How does the free warranty work?
1. We ship your order with pre-paid return label.
2. You return your old computer and the warranty is activated.
Will I need to go to the Dealer to do any programming to my computer?
No. All of our computers we sell are plug and play. They are updated with the latest factory software and programmed with your truck's VIN.
Will I be able to return my computer in the event it doesn't work?
You will be able to return your part within 60 days if it is returned undamaged in its original condition. You will be given the option of getting a refund or exchanging for another.
How quickly will you ship my computer?
Your order ships within 1-5 business days. Please allow 2-3 additional business days for delivery.
What if I don't return my old computer?
It is important you return your old computer. In the event you don't return your old computer, you will have voided your warranty.
How can I pay?
