What this DT466 ECM is, and what ships to you

This is a remanufactured International DT466 engine control module, programmed to your truck's VIN before it ships. It arrives ready to run.

You do not need to read a part number off your old module to order one. Diesel ECM Exchange matches the unit to your VIN instead, which is what confirms the correct module for your truck. Every unit is fully rebuilt, loaded with the latest software updates available from the manufacturer, and tested for quality before it leaves the bench.

Diesel ECM Exchange rebuilds and supplies diesel engine control modules for heavy trucks and diesel pickups.

Check whether your DT466 fault is the ECM or the IDM

Electronic DT466 engines carry two separate modules that get blamed for each other. The engine control module runs fuelling and engine sensors. The injector drive module sits with it and drives the injectors. Navistar's own service documentation gives a clean way to tell them apart:

  • The engine cranks but will not start. That pattern points at the IDM losing power, not the ECM.
  • The engine starts but has no throttle. That pattern points at the ECM losing power.

Both faults trace back to the same place, the clean power fuses in the battery box. The same manufacturer bulletin tells technicians to check the ECM and IDM power relays and wiring whenever one of those fuses has blown.

Rule that out first. A blown clean power fuse, a corroded ground or a loose connector produces the same no-start a failed module does, and checking costs nothing. If the symptom matches the IDM rather than the ECM, this is not the page you need.

Part numbers covered, and where the DT530 overlaps

Diesel ECM Exchange services seven International DT466 ECM part numbers: 1807349C1, 1807457C1, 1807476C1, 1833341C1, 1833558C1, 1839368C1 and 1874747C1. The part number selector also carries a "Not Known" option, so a module with an unreadable label is still orderable.

Six of those seven also appear on the DT530 ECM page, and that overlap is genuine rather than a filing quirk. EPA certification records list 1807349C1, 1807457C1, 1807476C1, 1833341C1 and 1833558C1 against engine families covering both the 466 and the 530 cubic inch displacements. Navistar certified the same module on both engines. If your truck runs a DT530, the DT530 ECM page is the one that covers it.

1839368C1 is the exception. It is shared with the VT365 ECM page instead, and it is the only DT466 number that carries over to that engine. The rest of the International and Navistar module range sits on the brand page.

Four ways to deal with a failed DT466 ECM

There are four ways to deal with a failed DT466 ECM, and they suit different situations.

  • Buy this rebuilt unit outright. A different module, rebuilt and programmed to your VIN before it ships. Your truck stays together while it is in transit. Costs more than sending your own module in, and the lifetime warranty starts when your old core comes back.
  • Send your own module in for repair. Your module is rebuilt and returned to you. Cheaper, but the truck is down for the round trip rather than just the bench time, and the module has to come off before you order. That is the DT466 ECM repair service.
  • Buy a used or salvage module. No rebuild, no bench test, and it still has to be programmed to your truck. Whatever cover comes with it is the seller's rather than the result of a rebuild process.
  • Buy new from a dealer. This is the route that ends with the truck sitting at a dealership, because a factory module gets coded once it is in the vehicle rather than before it ships.

What happens after you order a DT466 ECM

Diesel ECM Exchange contacts you for your VIN once the order is placed. The module is programmed to that VIN and loaded with the latest manufacturer software before it ships, so nothing needs doing to it when it arrives.

Orders are processed and dispatched within 1 to 5 business days. That clock starts when your VIN reaches Diesel ECM Exchange rather than at checkout, because the programming happens before the module leaves. Getting the VIN back quickly is the one part of the timeline you control.

Your old module goes back in the same box. A pre-paid return label is included, and the return is what activates the free lifetime warranty that comes with the exchange. Full warranty terms are on the policy page.

What if the number on my module is not one of the seven listed?

You can still order. The part number selector carries a "Not Known" option for exactly this, and the module is matched to your VIN rather than to a number read off the case. The seven published numbers are what Diesel ECM Exchange services on this page, not a limit on what the VIN can resolve. If your module falls outside what can be built, that surfaces before anything ships.

Does this cover a DT466E, or a particular truck like a 4300 or a 4700?

This page is built around the seven part numbers Diesel ECM Exchange services, not around truck model names. The engine variant and the chassis both get resolved from your VIN after you order, which is why the VIN is the only thing asked for. If you are unsure whether your truck falls inside that list, the VIN answers it faster than the number on the case.

Why does a DT466 ECM order need my VIN rather than a part number?

This page lists seven part numbers and no model years, so there is nothing on it to match your truck against directly. The VIN resolves which of the seven your engine takes, and it does that more reliably than a label read off a module that may already have been swapped once. It is 17 characters, on the dashboard and on your registration card.

What happens if I do not send my old DT466 ECM back?

The lifetime warranty is activated by your old module arriving, so without it there is no warranty on the unit you bought, and a core charge may apply. One thing to get right on this engine: the part that goes back is the engine control module, not the injector drive module sitting alongside it. The return label is already in the box, and the warranty page carries the deadline.

Does it come with current Navistar software?

Yes. The latest updates available from the manufacturer go on at the same time as the VIN programming, before the module ships. That step carries more weight here than on a single-year product. All but one of the part numbers on this page carry an EPA certification record, and those records run from 1997 to 2006, so the calibration your engine needs is not the one the next DT466 needs.

If I replace the ECM, does the IDM need anything doing to it?

No. They are separate modules with separate power feeds, and Navistar's service documentation records that the engine control module and the injector drive module are separately programmable. This page covers the ECM. A failed IDM is a different part and a different repair, so if your symptom points at the IDM rather than the ECM, this is not the module you need.
