What a PACCAR MX-13 ECM repair gets you

You are paying to have your own PACCAR MX-13 engine control module rebuilt. You are not buying a replacement unit. Nothing ships out to you first: pick the part number stamped on your module, place the order, and a pre-paid label follows so you can send the unit in. It is rebuilt, tested, and returned.

That is what separates this page from every listing selling an MX-13 ECM outright. No module changes hands. Yours leaves and yours comes back.

Match the part number on your MX-13 first

This page matches on one thing: the part number stamped on your module. Not the truck, not the model year, not the engine rating. The part-number selector on this page carries fourteen numbers, priced identically:

  • 1833060
  • 1877245
  • 1889041
  • 1952840
  • 2013285
  • 2015228
  • 2037394
  • 2109555
  • 2109556
  • 2160700
  • 2295122
  • 2298831
  • 2298832
  • 2298833

If the number on your unit is not in that list, a fifteenth option is labelled Paccar MX13 ECM (Part Number Unknown). It is priced and orderable exactly like the numbered options, so a number you cannot find does not stop you ordering. The rest of the PACCAR ECM repair services sit on the parent page.

Which of these numbers also cover the MX-11

Seven of the fourteen are certified against both the PACCAR MX-11 and the MX-13 in US EPA heavy-duty certification data: 2013285, 2015228, 2037394, 2109556, 2160700, 2295122 and 2298833. Four of them, 2037394, 2160700, 2295122 and 2298833, each carry 21 or 22 certified engine models for model years 2017 to 2021. The other three cover the MX-11 320 V and the MX-13 375 V for 2016.

Ten of the fourteen appear in the EPA record at all. 1877245 is certified on the MX-13 375 V for 2014 to 2016. 1833060 and 1889041 are certified on the MX 360 T for 2011.

The other four have no EPA certification row: 1952840, 2109555, 2298831 and 2298832. Diesel ECM Exchange services all four. The certification record simply does not cover them, so this page makes no fitment claim for them. Sequential numbers are not evidence either: 2298833 is in the record and 2298831 is not.

Two documented PACCAR faults that are not the module

Two PACCAR faults set engine codes without the module being at fault, and the manufacturer documents both.

The first is the MX-13 J2 engine harness rub. PACCAR Powertrain Service Bulletin E291, dated 2 June 2022, describes a J2 engine harness that may not be properly secured and can rub against a huck bolt, where the wear can result in an electrical short and DTCs being set. It covers 2,086 chassis: model year 2021 Peterbilt 579 trucks built between 1 May and 12 October 2021. The second is boost pressure sensor wire chafing on MX engines, where the sensor wiring does not meet quality standards for chafing and wear resistance.

The signs that do point at the module are no-starts, erratic stalling, failed scan tool communication, persistent codes after the related repairs are done, unstable throttle response and derate. Battery health, charging output, module power, grounds and connector integrity are worth confirming first. Our guide to diesel ECM failure symptoms by engine brand walks through that order.

What happens to your MX-13 board

Three things happen to the board. Failed components come off and go back on resoldered. Components with a known history of failing go at the same time, not only the one that gave out. Any cold solder joint found on inspection is reflowed.

Four checks follow before anything leaves. That the module communicates. That it accepts programming. That the programming and its parameters stay put afterwards instead of merely loading. And a voltage test.

Diesel ECM Exchange runs one process across every platform it works on, so an MX-13 is handled the same way as anything else on the bench.

Your three options with a failed MX-13

Three routes are open when an MX-13 ECM fails, and this page is one of them.

  • Repair the one you already have. Your module returns rebuilt. What it costs is road time, since the truck waits out the journey in both directions and not only the days of work, and the unit has to come off the engine before you can order.
  • Buy new through a dealer. A factory module arrives carrying none of your engine's programming, so a programming step follows the fit, adding money and another wait after the part is already paid for.
  • Buy used or salvage. Nothing has been rebuilt, nothing has been checked, and the unit still needs programming to your engine once fitted. Any cover attached to it is the seller's promise rather than the outcome of a rebuild.

A repair asks for no core up front and no deposit held. One module leaves your shop and the same one returns.

How long is the truck off the road?

Budget 3 to 5 business days for the repair itself, counted from the day your module lands at our facility, and a further 1 to 3 for the return leg. Neither figure covers the time the module spends in transit, in either direction. Nothing begins counting at checkout.

What does a PACCAR MX-13 ECM repair cost?

The price appears as soon as a part number is selected. It is the same for every MX-13 number listed, including the unknown-number option, so what is stamped on your module does not change what you pay. No quote or diagnosis is needed before you order.

Do I have to bring the truck in, or is this all done by mail?

It is all done by mail. A pre-paid label reaches you once the order is placed, and you use it to send the module in. The work happens at a single facility and the module travels back to you afterwards. The truck never leaves your yard and there is no appointment to book.

What if the board cannot be saved?

Some modules are past bringing back, and there is no telling which before yours is opened and checked. Diesel ECM Exchange carries a 60-day money back guarantee on this repair. The return policy sets out the terms that apply.

Do you need my VIN or my engine serial number?

No. This repair service asks for neither. After you order, the only thing to do is wait for the pre-paid shipping label and send your module in. There is no vehicle information to supply and nothing to look up beforehand.

Sellers list 2037394, 2160700, 2295122 and 2298833 together. Are they interchangeable?

Those four are each certified against both the MX-11 and the MX-13 in EPA data for model years 2017 to 2021. That records which engines each number was certified against. It does not make one number a substitute for another. Diesel ECM Exchange repairs the number you send in, so order the one stamped on your module.

Will I be able to return my computer in the event it doesn't work?
Yes. If you are not satisfied with the repair within the 60 day period, you will be able to get a refund.

How quickly will you ship my computer?
Please allow 3-5 business days for us to repair your core once it has been received at our facility. Please allow 1-3 additional business days for delivery.

What if it can't be repaired?
