What Type of Diesel Engine Computer Do I Need?

When it comes to selecting a diesel engine computer, you’ve got a great deal of choices — make, model, engine (liter) size, year, etc.

Whether you’re dealing with a tractor on the farm and need a 3126 or 3406 ECM from Caterpillar or your Dodge Cummins Diesel needs a new ECM, it’s important to make sure your replacement computer will work with your truck, tractor, or machine.  Engine computers — be it for a car, truck, or tractor — contain software specific to your engine’s capacity and capability.  If you’re looking to get more power, higher speed, or better fuel efficiency, you’ve got to have an ECM that is optimized and running the latest software.

How Do I Find the Right Replacement ECM?

First, you’ve got to know exactly what size engine you’re dealing with.  There’s a huge difference between a Mack semi-truck engine and a Dodge Cummins pickup truck.  It’s not hard to find the right ECM for your machine — browse our selection and navigate to the brand of your vehicle/machine.  Select the ECM that matches your make/model (Dodge Cummins Diesel, for example) and then select your engine size.

Let’s look at the three factors you’ve got to consider before you place your order with us.

What make and model is your vehicle?

If you’re dealing with a Dodge, a Ford engine computer isn’t going to work for you. When you order from Diesel ECM Exchange, we take all of the guesswork out of the equation.  It’s simple — just place your order online and give us your vehicle’s VIN.  We’ll make sure you receive an ECM that is pre-programmed and loaded with the newest code from the manufacturer, be it Dodge, Ford, Caterpillar, etc.  It’ll arrive 100% ready to be installed.

Will I need a shop or dealership to install my computer?

Surprisingly, no! When your computer arrives, all you’ve got to do is plug it in and you’ll be up and running.  It arrives “plug and play.”  We guarantee each and every computer that ships out will work without issues. If there are any issues, simply return your computer for another for a hassle-free exchange.

What are some of the brands that Diesel ECM Exchange carries?

We carry brands for nearly every popular diesel engine.  If you’re driving a pickup, we’ve got Dodge, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, and Ford engine control modules. Working on the farm? Check out our selection of Caterpillar, International, and Mack computers.

If it’s time to upgrade your engine’s old ECM and get more power from your vehicle — or if you’re truck or tractor is out of commission until you get a new ECM — place an order today and it’ll ship within a day or two.

Once you’ve received your new ECM and you’ve got it working, just send in your old one to activate your warranty.   Let us at Diesel ECM Exchange help you get back on the road or back out in the field.
