When a Duramax engine control module fails, the truck usually will not start, will not communicate with a scan tool, or throws fault codes that keep coming back after the sensors have been replaced.

Match your Duramax ECM by the number printed on it

The picker matches on the part number. There are 25 of them spanning seven engine generations, from the 2001 LB7 through the 2021 L5P, grouped by generation and model year:

• Four separate option groups on this page are labeled LML
• 19260753 is in the LBZ group and 19260758 is in the LMM group, one digit and one engine generation apart
• 12606126 and 12606127 are both LBZ, and they are not the same part
• All five LLY numbers sit in one group, and different sources name different part numbers for the same 2004-05 truck

What GM's own filings record about five of these numbers

Five of the part numbers here appear in parts-restriction bulletins GM filed with NHTSA, and those filings name the trucks and model years each number was fitted to:

• 12648344 and 12654088: Chevrolet Express, Silverado 2500 and Silverado 3500, GMC Savana, Sierra 2500 and Sierra Denali, model years 2012 and 2013
• 12658036: Chevrolet Silverado 2500, GMC Sierra 2500 and Sierra Denali, model year 2015
• 12662677: Chevrolet Express and Silverado 2500, GMC Savana, Sierra 2500 and Sierra Denali, model year 2016
• 12683624: Chevrolet Silverado and Silverado 2500, GMC Sierra and Sierra 3500, model years 2017 and 2018

A parts restriction routed dealer orders through GM's Product Quality Center, which says how the part was supplied, not that the part fails. What it gives you is a manufacturer-sourced link between a number stamped on a module and the truck it belongs to. GM's filings on this generation also designate the L5P engine control module family E41.

Repair your own Duramax ECM, or buy one already rebuilt

If the truck also shifts badly, check the transmission module

The Allison transmission fitted to these trucks has its own control module, and harsh or erratic shifting points at that one rather than the ECM. The two fail independently.

What happens once your Duramax ECM reaches the bench

Order first, then pull the module. After you order we contact you and send a pre-paid shipping label, so getting the unit to us costs you nothing and is not a carrier you arrange.

Allow 3 to 5 business days on the bench once your module reaches our facility, then 1 to 3 business days for delivery back. Travel time to us sits on top of that, so plan the whole round trip.

On the bench, failed components and the components known to fail alongside them are replaced and resoldered, and cold solder joints are found and reflowed. We then confirm the module communicates, takes programming, and that programming and parameters store and hold rather than just load. It is voltage tested before it ships back.

My truck is a 2007. Is it an LBZ or an LMM?

2007 is a split year and the model year alone will not tell you. The number printed on the module will. 12588335, 12606126, 12606127 and 19260753 are LBZ. 12609441, 12617102, 12628593 and 19260758 are LMM. Pick the option group that contains your number.

Is my part number 19260753 or 19260758?

Check the final digit, because those two numbers are different generations. 19260753 sits in the 2006-07 LBZ group and 19260758 in the 2007-10 LMM group. Both are serviced here, but they are not interchangeable, so read the last character off the module rather than a listing or a dealer lookup.

My truck is a 2014 LML. Do I pick the 2013-14 option or the 2014-15 option?

2014 straddles both LML option groups, so the part number decides it. 12653319 and 12654088 sit in the 2013-14 group, and 12658036 sits in the 2014-15 group.

How do I know it is the ECM and not something else?

GM has documented conditions on these engines where the module itself is the cause. One covers an ECM that does not act when an exhaust gas temperature sensor becomes disconnected. Another covers code P2002 being disabled on L5P trucks, which lets a failed diesel particulate filter go undetected. If the fault traces to behavior like that rather than a sensor you have already changed, the module is the part to look at.

Is a Duramax FICM the same thing as the ECM?

No. The fuel injection control module and the engine control module are separate parts that fail separately, and searches for one routinely return pages about the other. All 25 options here are ECMs, so if you have diagnosed a FICM this is not the page you need.

My part number is not in the list. Can you still service it?

The 25 numbers here are what can be ordered directly, and there is no unknown-part-number option. If your number is not one of them, call the number at the top of this page rather than picking the closest match. Getting it checked first beats sending a module in against the wrong option.
