The Ram 3500 badge covers two different trucks, and this repair is ordered by model year

This page repairs the Totally Integrated Power Module out of a Ram 3500 you already own, across model years 2007 through 2021. What you buy here is a repair service and not a replacement service: your own module comes off the truck, goes on the bench, and returns to you as the same unit.

The TIPM is the truck's power distribution module, and its work is body electrical rather than engine control. Federal service bulletin records put a TIPM behind a no-start condition on a 2013 Wrangler (record 10053694) and behind inoperative trailer tow lamps and excessive starter solenoid current on a Dodge model the document does not name (record 10020091). No Ram-specific TIPM bulletin appears in that corpus, so those records describe the module, not your truck.

Diesel ECM Exchange rebuilds diesel truck control modules at board level, and the TIPM is one.

Fifteen Ram 3500 options, one per model year, and no part number to read

The order on this page asks for a model year and takes nothing else. Fifteen options sit in the list, one for each year from 2007 through 2021, and every year in that run has an entry of its own.

This page publishes no part numbers. Ram TIPMs are not catalogued by number, and no TIPM part number can be verified against the federal emissions certification records that back the engine control module pages. Power distribution parts do not appear in those records at all. The model year is the match.

Nothing older than 2007 and nothing newer than 2021 is listed, so a 2006 or a 2022 truck falls outside the run, and the nearest year on the list is its own separate product rather than a stand-in. The other Ram TIPM repair pages cover the remaining cab and chassis classes.

Pickup or cab chassis: where the 3500 sits between the other Ram pages

Ram 3500 is one badge on two different trucks. Federal vehicle records classify the 2021 Ram 3500 in two body classes, pickup and incomplete chassis cab, under the same make, model and model year. The same records return a pickup for a 2500 and a chassis cab for a 4500.

This page's order does not ask which of the two you have. It asks for the model year. If your 3500 is a cab chassis carrying a service body, check with us before you ship anything.

The Ram 2500 TIPM page covers the same module on the lighter pickup and advertises the same 2007 to 2021 span, so the model year cannot separate those two pages. The badge on the door does. The Ram 4500 TIPM page covers the next chassis class up and starts at 2008.

The 6.7L Cummins engine control module repair is the other module on this truck, covering 2007 through 2016. That one runs the engine. This one distributes power to the body. Owners chasing both end up on both pages.

Which of these puts a tested module back in your Ram 3500

Three routes lead to a working Ram 3500 TIPM, and they differ most in how much gets checked before the module goes back in the truck.

Sending yours in is the route this page sells, and the only one of the three where the module is proven before it goes back. On the bench your Ram 3500 module gets:

  • Failed components replaced and resoldered
  • Cold solder joints found and reflowed
  • Programming confirmed to take, and programming and parameters confirmed to store and hold
  • Voltage tested before it ships

Bench time runs 3 to 5 business days from the day your module lands here, before it ships back to you.

A dealer's new module is a new part at the part price, set up at the shop once fitted. A salvage or used unit has had no rebuild and no testing behind it, and its board history is unknown.

A repaired module may be sent back in up to two times under the free lifetime warranty. Scope, exclusions and the conditions attached sit in the warranty terms.

Questions Ram 3500 owners ask once they have found their year

The 2007 and 2008 options say Dodge RAM 3500 and the later ones just say RAM 3500. Are those two different trucks?

One truck line, two badges. The option labels follow how the truck was branded in that model year, and federal vehicle records do the same thing: a 2007 truck is filed under the make Dodge and a 2021 truck under the make Ram. Order against the model year. The badge on the grille never changes which option you pick.

Do I go by the model year on the door sticker or the year I bought the truck?

The model year, which is the year on the vehicle's own build label rather than the year you took delivery. Those two are not always the same number, and the build label is the one that counts. Every option on this page is labelled with a four-digit model year and nothing else, so that label carries everything the order needs.

Is the TIPM the box under the hood or the fuse panel inside the cab?

This service covers the TIPM, the module named in every option on this page. If what you are holding is the fuse block out of the cab, that is a different part and it is not what gets repaired here. The two are easy to mix up by name. If you are not certain which one you are looking at on your Ram 3500, ask us before anything comes out of the truck.

My module has corrosion on the pins after a wet season. Is it still worth sending in?

The state of the board and the connectors decides that, and it is a call made on the unit rather than from a description. Corrosion does not automatically finish a module, and it does not automatically survive one either. Tell us what you can see on yours before you post it.

Someone has already had this module apart, or spliced in a relay bypass cable. Can it still be repaired?

Prior work changes what is on the board, so say what has been done before the module ships. Tell us whether the work was done inside the case or wired in around it, because those are two different starting points on the bench. Neither one rules the module out on its own, and neither should be a surprise when it arrives.

How do I know it is the TIPM and not the wiring before I pull it out?

The module is not always the culprit when a circuit stops working, so rule out the wiring before anything comes off the truck. Call with the symptoms and any stored codes and we will talk it through before you post anything. You have 60 days under the money back guarantee. The return policy spells out how it works.

Frequently asked questions

How does the free warranty work?
We are confident in the quality of our repairs, so we back every repair with a free lifetime warranty.

Will I be able to return my computer in the event it doesn't work?
Yes. If you are not satisfied with the repair within the 60 day period, you will be able to get a refund.

How quickly will you ship my computer?
Please allow 3-5 business days for us to repair your core once it has been received at our facility. Please allow 1-3 additional business days for delivery.

What if it can't be repaired?
It's rare, but it happens. If we can't save your unit, every dollar you paid is applied to a rebuilt replacement — you'd pay for that replacement either way, so there's no downside to trying the repair first. Worst case, you end up exactly where you started.
